Nelson Bonilla is a prolific forward who joined Port on loan from Bangkok United. A feisty, clinical striker, Bonilla burst on to the Thai football scene in 2018 with Sukhothai, scoring 25 goals in a remarkable debut campaign. A move to Bangkok United followed, and the goals kept flowing. Unfortunately, injuries prevented Bonilla from improving on his 2018 tally, although 16 goals in 20 games was certainly an impressive return on a per-minute basis. Nevertheless, with Bonilla continuing to struggle with a serious injury, Bangkok United decided not to risk putting their faith in the Salvadoran again in 2020, allowing him to move to Port on loan for the final 3 months of his contract, after which Port signed him on a permanent deal.
Bonilla is an instinctive striker with a nose for a goal and a mouth that will more than likely get him in to trouble at some point. Expect goals, fireworks and some very, very frustrated opposition defenders.
